I have been fascinated by the rise of different groups that find conspiracies behind almost anything going on in the world.  The most deadly and effective HOAX perpetrated by a group or groups convinced that a made-up story about the "Elders of Zion" met in smoky cellars to plot their overtaking the powers of the world and making slaves of Christian children.  This went hand in hand with the accusation that Jews all over the world used the blood of Christian children in the making of ritual matzo when the observance of Passover appeared each year.

These were European ideas about the power of the Jews. A bit of this was transported across the seas to what became the United States.  Anti-Semitism has had its ups and downs but is mostly relegated to the kinds of people who believe in conspiracies - like the John Birch Society.  The John Birch Society fought a battle against suspected Communists in our government. It feared a takeover of the country during the period when the power of Russia backed Cuba.  Cuba was armed by Russia and this frightened those convinced that there was a kind of Elders of Zion thing going on right here on American soil.

We have not heard much from the John Birch (Super Patriot) Society recently because even China is easier to deal with than the Russian Communists who have been supplanted by their brand of Capitalism.  We still must fear Communist Cuba but Castro is no longer the big bad wolf waiting to tear our doors down to eat us all up!

What bothers the seekers of conspiracy in the J.B. Society today is mostly the loss of American suzerainty because there are plans afoot to create a new political unifying reconfiguration in North America - the Union of Canada, the U.S.A. and Mexico.  There are other aspects of loss of American Patriotism centered here in the country clustered around Washington, D.C.   But the most important threat are the conspirators who want to take over the power of the U.S. and turn it over to an international plot to subject Americans to an outside authority.

The John Birch Society has gone through several transformations over the years.  In the beginning there was virulent anti-Semitism practiced but this is just about gone according to its present leaders:  Some of their best friends are Jewish John Birch Super-Patriots.  Blacks are O.K. too, as long as they are against us losing out to the North American Union of Canada, Mexico and its junior partner, the U.S.A.

The John Birch Society has risen again.  We should not be surprised.
