Yesterday I received my summer 2009 Issue # 134 of Intelligence Report which is published by the Southern Poverty Law Center. I rely on the compilation in these issues of HATE GROUPS and anti-American activities by nativists or homegrown kooks and nuts. We should take these groups and nativist homegrown kooks and nuts seriously.
Anti-abortion folks sometimes kill although they are pro-life. This non-sequitur is all too common in our everyday life, where we unconsciously say, "I'll kill him for that" when we are just mad for the moment. It is the other kind who brood, plan and prepare to go out to do justice by killing a group of innocent folks. Florida has its share of events that could either make you cringe or scream. Since early January there were 5 reported incidents varying from shooting a black cyclist to graffiti, murder and spraying a mosque with bullets. The senselessness of these acts has to come from somewhere.
The "Southern Poverty Law Center" says it all. It is a center mainly in the South where impoverished people have the law on its side if the Center gets involved. These are the names of some of the groups that come to the attention of the Center: "Resurgence of the Right", "National Anarchism", Racists, "Vigilantism", "Neo-Nazis", "White Supremacists", "Bashing Immigrants", "Extremists", "Nationalist Socialist Movement", "the Klan", "The Aryan Guard" (in Western Canada), "White Power", "Anti-Semitism" and Holocaust Deniers.
It is quite a list of people involved in constant repetition of senseless acts. This must be true or there would not be the Intelligence Report that is not supported by public monies and has been the creation of Morris Dees, a lawyer. He discovered that you could put some of these groups out of business by hitting them where it hurts - in the pocket book. Suits to have them pay have worked and put some out of business. But they start other businesses under different names and go back to the same recipe of hate, prejudice and acts that harm the innocent.
Our nativist homegrown kooks and nuts are one thing. There is, however, a serious underground network of different groups who join up now and then and there are outbreaks of one or two seriously deranged persons who go into a public place and shoots to kill. This is just the lid of the boiling pot that allows enough steam to escape that will scald and spread fear among those near the random attacker. The main point of this essay is that there are uncounted and unrealized numbers of individuals who give support and comfort to the named groups above. We have no idea about their real numbers; they live next door to you.
