Being the biggest and best of leaders in the civilized world, Barack Obama ("Hussein" omitted for emphasis) made an historic speech in Cairo, yesterday.  He did not touch on one of his "Great House" ancestors (meaning, Pharaoh)'s mistake in letting his people go.  What he did was to point out that those people had returned to their land which was an irrevocable act.  As Pharaoh-in chief, he stated some very important and very common-sense truths.  The ancient promise of God to free the Hebrews from Egyptian slavery was done and finished.  God directed them to move into the Promised Land and the people there had to move over to let them in.  That was about 3,500 years ago.

Allah came to our notice about 600 a.d. (or as preferred by non Christians C.E. (for Common Era).  Allah spoke through his Messenger, Muhammad, but did not set anyone free.  Muhammad led a hegira from Medina to Mecca and made the Black Stone shrine (which Abraham, himself, visited) the central location of religious authority for Arabs and others whom Muhammad convinced by sword or by belief, to worship Allah.

These two stories, centuries apart, came after the Greeks and Romans and saw the demise of Egyptian hegemony.  Mr. Pharaoh, Obama, has appeared on the world scene and through a speech understood by most but disagreeable in some details to others, set the scene for a new world order.  Nothing less than peace through mutual understanding and respect for the beliefs of others will do in this new world order.  Women, first as girls and then as equals in learning, would be recognized in those parts of the word where they were still enslaved and it is predicted that they will be set free by the words of this new Pharaoh.

Many who listened carefully found important ideas and favorite beliefs missing from Mr. Obama's speech.  He did visit the Western Wall, Mosques and the ancient Pyramids and used Arabic words and generally was respectful to his main audience, the huge population of Islamic peoples. His own American critics could not accept his background as equal to WASP America, before he spoke as the new world Pharaoh.  The American conservative block was quick to tear him down even before he spoke.  He has laid out his vision for a continuing successful Israel, whose Jewish remnant from the Holocaust made a viable democratic country exactly as laid out by the United Nations in 1948. He has also called for the Arabs and Christians in Palestine to begin the work of self-help rather than depend upon money and weapons supplied by surrounding countries. Several times, these neighbors have invaded to rid the area of its Jewish inhabitants - the wandering Jews. They finally came out of the desert and occupied Palestine.  It is a curious history to this point when a New Pharaoh has appeared in the land - is it not?
