Disappointment Reigns as Media Abdicates

North Miami Beach, FL May 8, 2009
A.H. Schectman

It looks to me as though THE media has abdicated its responsibility to deal honestly, fearlessly and relatively quickly with the news of the day throughout the world.  I say this because it has become common knowledge that the cell-phone miracle with its little camera can deliver on the spot news events as they happen. The MEDIA comes when called and is often not the first to record the happenings which the people seem to need as much as they require air to breathe.

But, it really isn't the ubiquity of cell-phone cameras that is of the greatest import.  What bothers me is that since Barack Obama was a shoe-in in the recent election, fair minded antidotes, Radio Free America (or the correct name), decided that its job was done and it went off the air.  This is not to say that there was much difference between the Radios on the Right from the Radios on the Left.  Mr. Rush Limbaugh set the pattern for "know it all" commentators and it was followed by the lefty sound-a-likes.  Both the right and the left had formulas that they followed and you could quickly get sick of the laughing and joking idiots who sounded more like reporters of sports contests rather than weighty analysts of what was happening in the political news moment by moment.

Now, this Rush Limbaugh, whom I have to listen to in order to get static free "news" on 610 on my dial (940 shape shifted to something else than the fearless tellers of the truth) is self-created but the acknowledged model for truth on the right which is also the bitter pill for those on the left.

Liberalism is still the whipping boy for the Republicans' inarticulate responses blaming the winner of the last election as the target for the same irresponsible attacks on the programs promised to solve the problems the Republicans never confessed to during their eight years.  Mr. Limbaugh digs up each stinking accusation and reports it as truth and his clones throughout the Media industry pick it up and runs with it. The truth is as they say it is.

Actually, the lone owner of a cell phone with camera inside does a pretty good job without the slant or spin that Mr. Limbaugh gives it.  Each time Mr. L. goes off on a tirade he takes each new report and it becomes the same old blame game - Mr. Obama cannot get anything right; the Democrats cannot get anything right and Liberals are still to blame for everything that does not square with the Republican (maybe Limbaugh-Ian?) view of what in the world this world is coming to?
