The Joe and Sarah Show

North Miami Beach, FL October 6, 2008
A.H. Schectman

It appears that the big-top show of Barak and John has been pushed to the side with the appearance of John’s choice of a running mate, Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.  This might be because it is so much more interesting than all the facts that have been dredged up about the two principals.  It looks like Joe Biden is an established fact – more is known about him than his opponent.  She seems to be inventing herself as the campaign is expiring.

Sarah Palin is a much more interesting personage than the imposing Joe Biden.  His record in the annals of Democratic Party’s history in the latter part of the 20th Century and into the first decade of the 21st. Century is clear and unambiguous.  Sarah Palin, as mentioned above, seems to be discovering new things that pique the interest of the voting masses.  That she might lure Hillary partisans over to the Republicans is a bet the Republicans are making by feeding her all the lines she could never have thought up herself.  But, she is doing a pretty good job with a smile, that upswept mop of hair and winks.  The essence of her message is not the issues of the 2008 Presidential campaign.  She actually outdoes the hatchet job that her boss, John McCain, is doing all by himself in the attack ads that he says he has approved.  Is this any way to run an election?

Well, yes, it is.  All the usual suspects are aligned on both sides of the Country in full campaign gear.  The lowest common denominator dictates what is said in those ads and the rhetoric is heating up with denials and corrections flying back and forth.  I tend to think that the Democrats are more morally sound in how they conduct this election than the Republicans.  But, you must be enjoying the Joe and Sarah Show almost as much as I.

While following the fascinating paths of the two Vice-Presidential voices in critical States – particularly here in Florida where Democrats outnumber Republicans but where over the years the party machinery of the Republicans has outwitted the Democrats and prevented crucial voters from stepping up and doing their duty.

As the days dwindle down to a precious few there are vital numbers of unregistered voters who have to be counted.  With your vote and mine we’ll hire a Vice President as well as a President.  Who do you think they will be?
