Hold it for a minute. I forgot to mention we are at war and our economy has tanked. But really, it is the election that holds our interest the most because it is not cut and dried and drips with drama produced by two untried Democrat Presidential candidates and a dreadfully chosen Vice-Presidential candidate on the Republican side. Actually, they – the four candidates – have never been president of a country before and we are expected to make choices on what we see as well as what all those pundits and talking heads are saying about them.
We have friends who will not speak to us about the election and others who won’t stop talking about the choices we made and the mistakes they are making. I THINK that one side of our family will go Democratic while the other will landslide for the Republicans. It is hard to imagine everyone who thinks only in one way. It is enlightening to note that most of us can hold contradictory thoughts at the same time. I don’t think animals have that problem.
But it is obvious that it is the ELECTION all the time from this time to sometime after it is held. Many of the pundits who have weighed in on this story tell us that the decisions made during this time will affect the future of our country for a long, long time. That is sort of gratuitous - for every election has had that effect.
What bothers most left-leaning people is the air-head who might be President if John McCain and Palin win the election. He may well become President but his health is also the concern of a lot of people who pin their hopes on the Republican formula of privatization, faith based everything and driving the government out of the business of governing. What bothers some of the McCain/Palin backers is that they have no more idea about fixing the economy that is heading into depression than the Democrats.
Meanwhile, the stores are luring us into them with visions of Halloween, the delicacies of Thanksgiving and the plethora of choices to present to all our loved ones. Have you noticed the sales and complaints that few are buying? Then, thankfully, New Year comes and goes and the cycle will be repeated all over again –EXCEPT – that the next election will be two years in the future.
We do realize that the future will not take care of itself and we are required to vote and vote intelligently in order to prevent all the bad things predicted from happening. So, THINK FIRST, go with Obama and Biden and hope for the best for what really scares me is if we give power to McCain, he might not last and then we get – gasp – Palin.
