7 Years of Pain Unresolved

North Miami Beach, FL September 11, 2008
A.H. Schectman

Almost anyone you speak with will tell you that bad feelings still exist of two tall trade towers collapsing seven years ago, masterminded by Osama bin Laden. He directed his minions hijack passenger planes and sent them deliberately to destroy these emblems of American power. That act cannot have been erased by time.  Gnashing of teeth and saying WE MUST GET EVEN didn’t work and that evil genius is still at large, laughing at all our angst.

The Far Right wants might to be the answer – so we went to war with Afghanistan and Iraq, two countries that had nothing to do with the attack seven years ago.   The attempt to sell this to the American people has finally been shown for it was – a terrible move that has been costly to you and me.

Ordinary Americans ask why bin Laden has not yet been brought to justice – brought to trial and given a fair hearing just like Saddam Hussein.  This dictator was caught up in the drive to use the might of America to answer bin Laden’s challenge. This was an interesting, costly and wrong direction in which we were sent by George W. Bush and his neo-con advisors.

All right thinking people want a resolution of that attack and wish the reminder of a deep hole in “Ground Zero” would be filled up and let the healing finally begin. The best resolution would be the capture of this horribly sick but able man and bring him to face charges.  Going to war instead makes us wonder why hasn’t Osama bin Laden been captured or killed.  Why has the American know-how and pride been prevented from an all out war just against al Queda and Osama bin Laden instead of despoiling Afghanistan and Iraq?

Unfortunately, two wars and over 4,100 dead soldiers have not changed the bad feelings of not only Americans but many around the world that this man-made disaster has caused.   There were four planes involved in the plan and it was masterful.  Only one did not reach its destination but the other three made an impression on the world that we continue to count the years since then and wonder why?

Let the resolution result in finally capturing the master-mind and his cadre and bringing them to justice before the opinion of the world. Our worries over new attacks would end if an all out effort was made to go to the source.
