All I know is what I read in the newspapers. So, I could conclude that audacity could trump futility in this race for POTUS.
The papers report the news and the news, all the time and everywhere is that “Billary” (an apt pseudonym) is losing, not by much but definitely is going to the Democratic Convention with fewer votes than Barack. She may have the popular vote but he may have the votes of “super” delegates with the actual power to create the leading Democrat player in the on-coming election.
I still don’t get what a “super” delegate is. It smacks of something undemocratic. I thought that the election is held, the primary losers drop off and everybody votes. The one getting the most votes wins. Well, it used to be that way but somehow the Party system created this “super” category of voter and he or she is what counts. Will someone please explain where in the history of this Democracy this happened?
Now, in reviewing the history of this Democracy I remember that voting created a winner, the President and the second highest count of votes became the Vice-President. There is a lot of talk today about how nice it would be if there were no contest between Hillary and Barack and they just flipped a coin to see who would be President and who would be Vice. It IS a nice thought and will not happen but what a nice world it would be if that was the way this election was settled.
Isn’t it interesting that even though a long, long time ago the Republicans chose McCain as their front runner that he seems to be lost somewhere in the background and everybody is excited about the Democrats and their chance to grab the brass ring this time around. It really would be a bummer if all the Democrats’ energy was wasted on this contest so that the Republicans could sneak in and win the actual vote and we would have a continuation of the embarrassing rule of PERMANENT tax breaks for the rich and losing the unnecessary wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And, that is another thing. If the “neo-cons” and other war mongers get in again, there is the actual possibility that their war-thirsty selves might go straight to war with Iran holding Syria in the background.
Meanwhile, there is the 60th anniversary of Israel right in the middle of this muddle. But, it would be nice is someone could explain where these super-delegates came from and why! It looks like there is futility in hope when there should be audacity. Maybe we could work something out.
