I feel a great deal better now. The new memory card was installed by a friend who also works for ATT. He was quick, sure and efficient and left showing me that the new memory (RAM) was, indeed, added to my previously over-filled capacity on this not too old machine. But, something happened and while every task I performed on this computer worked swiftly, it was not allowed to access the Internet. Frustrated, I wrote the February 3rd essay where I was prepared to lead a revolt against this whole new world. But, I reached the technicians in Fast Access and over the phone they could tell that something was not quite right and that it needed a real-live technician to come to my house and FIX the problem.
We made a date for the following afternoon and said technician did arrive. He checked and found that I was properly connected but that when calling back to where they keep the technicians, it was discovered that after the problem arose, my access to the internet would have to be turned on. The irony of the whole thing was that it was pretty close to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and no one would be available to flip the proper switch until Monday morning. So, I wrote my piece for Sunday but could not send it out or send or receive e-mails.
Early this Monday morning I connected with the technicians and found that the switch had not been flipped and I could do nothing about it and we went about our way. When I came home I found a whole list of e-mails and I was back on line. A curious thing while waiting for a phone connection for researching my “ticket number”, I found that my 700wx Palm cellphone has the capacity to send and receive as well as read the news and other important things on it. I shall have to look into this and maybe one day I will be able to send pictures along with my essays. But that will have to be another day.
This is the day that I called off the revolt against the machines because they have again been nice to me – and, much, much faster. Typing is a pleasure and this creaky old (2004 version) is working just fine.
So, my connection is connected again, my speed is speeded up, and I have declared an end to my revolt and all those who have been disappointed by not having instant gratification in the use of your machines will just have to wait for another leader. I have left the revolt business and have gone back to just writing and waiting for the inevitable huge amount of spam and very few interacting e-mail writers. Please excuse my split second surge of anger at this lovely, really wonderful machine that I adore now that it is working wonders again.
