Letting God Take Over

North Miami Beach, FL August 1, 2007
A.H. Schectman

I don’t know why someone hasn’t come up with this answer.  There are so many problems worldwide and here at home and we try using democracy, autocracy, theocracy, plutocracy and technology to solve them.  Common sense is not resorted to and to no ones’ surprise; the founder of all life on this planet has been ignored.  I think it is time to let God take over.  It wouldn’t hurt.

Jerry Adler in the July 23 issue of News Week, wrote “After We Are Gone”. He imagines the world without us humans who have made such a mess of the planet. He asks: “With no one to fight fires, repair dams or plow fields, what would become of the world?” It is a good question and since God’s creations have not used the bounty provided along with living creatures, why not turn the problem over to God? Eventually, the world would heal itself without us.

By whatever name he or she or it (perhaps “The Force”) is given – Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohenu, Allah or the many other names of his, hers, its or The Forces’ are used from time to time – they still refer to a unitary creator of the universe.  Instead of imagining transporting all of us humans to another plane of existence or another planet, just cease the bickering and polluting and let God take over and get it right this time. It is sort of: “Just Saying NO”.

I don’t mean to criticize God but the original blueprints have been lost somehow and the structures humans have created mock the model of the original creation.  Some people, somewhere, sometime and somewhen must have gotten it right and their model should be studied for the commonalities that we all must possess instead of obsessing on the differences.

It is like asking the individuals who have reached the century mark to find out to what do they attribute their length of days.  Mostly they are just as surprised as we are that they lasted that long.  But, you know as they must know, there are limits to everything. Our world is reaching the limit of abuse that it can take.

Letting God take over will take some doing.  The ambitions of too many of us get in the way of letting God (let me be blasphemous here and use Common Sense) take responsibility for doing a lousy job and perhaps getting rid of all the troublemakers at one time in order to shock the rest of us that we have to shape up or be sent away somewhere where we will no longer have freedom of choice, speech and behavior. For those who believe in a power that intercedes for them and us – like Jesus (long since dead and risen), Popes, Mullahs, Ministers and Rabbis – give God a chance.  Make him, her, it etc., responsible. It wouldn’t hurt.
