Incompetence Is no Disqualification

North Miami Beach, FL June 23, 2007

No, incompetence is no disqualification for almost any endeavor under heaven.  Even in Heaven “they” didn’t get it right from the beginning.  There was this notion that we humans came equipped to understand a whole list of things we could not do.  They all boiled down to walking forthrightly among the lions who lay at ease among lambs and nothing was really prohibited except, perhaps, eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge.  Walking forthrightly on two legs the two sexes created from one lump of clay did not include clothing.  After eating from that fruit (SHE started it) they were thrown out of their womb-like existence where there was no strife, war, refugees and dishonesty, they were thrust out into the world and started the clothing industry. This was incompetence right from the start.

We eventually began to form nations and found that our leaders were chosen on the flimsiest grounds and they disappointed us from that day until this.  No matter which branches of government were started they created a built-in function of incompetence of those chosen or appointed to run them.  We have never been satisfied with what we were given, built ourselves or had imposed on us.  Incompetence has been one of the enduring requirements of those whose ambitions were to be our leaders or, at least, our critics.  None got it right from the beginning and will not get it right into the future.

I think the early entry into the race to become the next incompetent to represent the American people, be it Hillary, Barack, Rudy or even Michael is a good thing.  We get a chance to look at their choice of clothing and make decisions about how they look and how they act.  It is a more difficult thing to discover what they think because those thoughts are carefully clothed so as not to anger anybody.  At least they have to convince a simple majority that each is better than the pack.

Since we have discussed that incompetence is no barrier to high or low office we should look at qualifications and shudder at the high standards we demand of those we elect to rule us.  We fail even before we begin.  For, who ever said that we were qualified to choose those who were competent over those who were incompetent?  I despair of sifting through the paperwork each candidate presents as representative of what they THINK after we had a good look at their couture and how they comported themselves in the so-called debates where they all were nice to each other while trying to imply the opposite.

When qualifications include competence the world would have revolved around to the point where honesty, purity, integrity and ingenuity finally ruled.
