Iran Plus THE Holocaust Do not Compute

North Miami Beach, FL December 6, 2006
A.H. Schectman

The latest anti-Semitic (read anti Jew, anti Zionist and anti Israel) attacks by officials in Iran are directed to an international conference where papers will be read by a variety of “experts” on the “Holocaust”.  This is another but equally lethal attack on Israel, the concept of Zionism and Jews all over the world.  That Iran has a few Jews is pointed out as a compelling fact that there is no animosity against them in calling for this conference. For some reason they think we are stupid.

What this conference will do (just going through the motions of making arrangements for it and advertising it) is enough to reawaken the questioning that existed even while the gas chambers were choking people to death and the crematoria were sending their smoke and ashes up in the sky.  The ploy is transparent and one may wonder why so much energy is being expended on it by an administration that is pushing ahead its schedule to achieve atomic energy.  This last is, perhaps, the answer.  What Iran is saying – Hey – look over there where the Jews were SUPPOSED to have been decimated.  Let us really look over there and talk about that.  We will have experts examine the obviously false report and we can then justify the evil that the Jews are really doing by existing in Israel and who are punishing good Muslim people.

This is not as crazy an idea as it might look at first sight. We should be able to remember the court case and attention given to Holocaust deniers in England and elsewhere.  Most responsible countries do not want another Holocaust and are making denying it and promoting things like Iran is now doing, a crime.  The crime of selecting any group – be they Kulaks, Serbs, Croats, Gypsies, Chechens or any minority and then punishing them by deportation, or enslavement and finally by extermination should be made a crime against humanity and its perpetrators punished severely and permanently.  I do not think they should be given prison terms and then released out into society. Saddam Hussein should not hang.

My favorite solution to this problem is to have the denier, when convicted and all appeals exhausted, dyed a permanent color (orange is mine) and be put to work out in the communities with a perpetual guard to prevent his being hurt by the populace among whom he works or him or her hurting anyone else.  My friend and blessed agent in getting Carol and me to meet one another, Jud Galford, added this:  He said, they should be put to work planting flowers and trees but never being allowed to come back to see them bloom and grow tall.  He was more poetic than I.

“Iran plus the Holocaust do not compute”.  Iran is doing this to energize the latent Anti-Semitism that is just under the surface of many a people who are hiding their true feelings. When the Conference is over- IT will start all over again.
