Sharing a Sunday Breakfast and Thoughts

North Miami Beach, FL November 12, 2006
A.H. Schectman

It depends on what is going on- on Sunday Morning at Temple Sinai- that will determine if I go to listen to speakers and have a “light” breakfast.  This morning was a dual delight for the two speakers were gifted, dynamic, interesting and the morning set brain cells to work which is a good thing.

Ari Odzer, a television reporter for NBC, Channel 6 spoke about the election and gave insights to some of the events which might have puzzled a few.  One, most interesting and most important piece of information, concerned our Governor-elect, Charlie Christ.  I cannot resist speaking about this for it encapsulates in a large sense what is wrong here in democratic America.  In official and private circles Charlie Christ has almost always been an acknowledged homosexual.  This is not a bad thing for that is his lot in life.  However, it was a thing that Republicans strived to suppress and newspapers and other media sources did not want to deal with.  He promised to carry on Jeb Bush’s programs, which is the bad thing. He is unmarried, has not come out with a significant other, has no children and yet, endorses the infamous FCAT which helps to keep Florida’s educational evaluation down to 48th, just the third from the bottom of the worst school systems in the U.S. He was a brilliant campaigner and spent $40,000,000.00 and sashayed to the Governor’s mansion.

Mr. Odzer spoke extemporaneously from notes which is a difficult thing to do and is an indication that he has mastered his work which is that of news reported in front of a camera.  He answered most questions fully and, I think, satisfied everyone with his knowledge and first hand insider-ship in the news business.

The second speaker was Dr. Itzhak Ben Gad, the Israeli Consul General in Miami who gave a very important series of facts about the recent war with Lebanon and the position Israel has in the Arab world surrounding it.  What was most clearly enunciated, despite a heavy accent, was that that the Israeli government was not in upheaval but acknowledged that mistakes were made so that the war against the Hezbollah was a success although qualified since Israelis were fighting against fighters using civilian shields and who were supplied with rockets and other supplies by Iran.

The most significant thing said by Dr. Ben Gad was in answer to the question if atomic weapons would be used against Israel by its enemies.  He spoke very slowly and emphatically that the worry should not be if Israel was a target from Iran but the mad-man, Ahmadinejad, in Iran should be worried.

Somehow, I believe the Consul General.
