Much is being made of the purported candidacy for Presidency by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton even while she is gearing up for another six years as the Junior Senator from New York.
She was right, you know. Despite the overwhelming distaste for this woman by Conservatives, Religious right groups, Republicans and Democrats, too – she was right about a Universal Health Care System. Now think about this. Since her days as second –not-elected-in-command in the Clinton White House, she was an activist First Lady and she has not been forgiven for being that. Her immediate emersion in trying to put together a Universal Health Care System raised hackles everywhere but the most important aspect of the plan was how it was to be paid for.
Just think about the days since. Bill Clinton left office with a surplus in the treasury. That has disappeared. His successor, G.W. Bush disposed of that dreamy bunch of money as quickly as possible and then launched us into war (every thing points to 9/11) and the dismantling of as many entitlement programs that gave security to the lower and middle classes while largesse was anointing the tiny percentage of highest earners (mostly unearned income) in this country.
All that money that was squandered and then extracted from future tax-payers to give to the very few at the top could have had a Universal Health Care System in place for many years. The Republican stumble in trying to repair the lacunae left in place by destroying all that was good and proper for most Americans has left a very bad taste and many are beginning to think that Hillary was right and, at least for me and my kind, Bill, too.
Billions are owed to foreign investors. Billions are owed because of mandatory Human Rights emergency aid. Billions are lost in war. Billions are owed to the very classes that are dunned for new taxes and old programs that immediately dropped from sight as Reactionary programs were inflicted upon us. The poorest and the least able were made the target of – not help – but of increased burdens while the most able to pay for themselves were gifted by a grateful White House.
The immorality of Hillary sticking by her man through his violation of his vows and his conduct of his Presidential affairs was nothing like the horror she was painted by the moralists in this country. She was the good wife, the good intention planner and the good Senator. I believe she would be too good for the American people if and when she is elected as President of the United States.
