Let It Rest

North Miami Beach, FL 12-21-2005
A.H. Schectman

Out in Pennsylvania, Judge Jones has made his decision and has made one side of the case he decided mad.  I think his reasoning of the study he made of the merits of the case for Intelligent Design was cogent and particularly damning to the pretensions of the Creationists who thought they could substitute the religious argument in a different form in order to bring Christianity as Science into the classrooms of this country.

They should let it rest but the divided country is still divided over religion in school. The wounds exacerbated by Judge Jones will continue to fester for the forces that wish to control our thinking will not rest.

The Dover, PA School board was repudiated by not being reelected and the scientific community was almost unanimously opposed to what that School board tried to do.  What is particularly distasteful are the so-called “scientists” who rallied to the side of the Creationists to substitute Intelligent Design in its place.  Judge Jones also made this point: earlier printed reasoning about Creationism merely dropped the word and substituted Intelligent Design in its place.  What is so curious about this is that such intelligent people could resort to such fabrication of a structure that has now tumbled down. They still think it stands.

The division remains, the controversy is not squashed and it will not rest.  It should be allowed to die the death of fallacious ideas exposed for the tomfoolery they are. But Tom continues to fool and many are moved by and drawn into the nonsense that the culpable are willing to believe.

Some ideas that should have rested a long while ago are still with us. One is the second sex nature of women, subservient to men.  My household is proof of that fallacy.  It has not gone completely the other way around – yet – but it might for I testify to that thesis every day.  Another idea is that the world is flat goes along with the existence of a heaven populated with our long dead family members who consort with angels.  Good people believe this and, God Bless them, they harm no one with this belief.  But, if they wish to institute this in our secular schools they are not only fools but dangerous warriors on the side of the devil in whom they also believe is real and walks among us.

There cannot be a civilized and really modern world until these antiquated and newly crafted distortions are laid to rest.  We, you and I, should not rest and be complacent and allow the Creationists and Intelligent Design designers to continue messing with our minds.
