G.W. Bush - Pro-active President

North Miami Beach, FL 12-13-2005
A.H. Schectman

One may hope, may one not?  But this will never happen.  Mr. Bush is a believer and he has cohorts of believers who back him in whatever mistaken steps he takes to avoid dealing with the real world.  What Mr. Bush is against is far more varied than the small core of small minded issues he pursues without looking beyond to the mayhem and future damage our world will surely suffer.

For instance: just in today’s New York Times alone (and where else will you find such stories?) there are at least five reports that are connected because of the Republican controlled government (by Bush and HIS team) that refuses to join in with the rest of the world facing common problems of destruction of the ozone layer, the increase of pollution and, global warming and continued depletion of non-renewable oil, coal and other fossil fuel.

Mr. Bush is for “voluntary research” rather than a commitment of government resources to find answers that were demanded in Montreal yesterday.  Other nations KNOW that “voluntary” will not encourage the huge commitment necessary to deal with global issues.  Mr. Bush is for “non-binding” discussions rather than committing the U. S. to lead once again in the world-wide effort to curb world wide problems.  But, the newspaper reports that Mr. “Bush exudes confidence” that his way is the best way.

Mr. Bush says Iraq’s parliamentary election will not stop the violence.  The question must be asked, where is his leadership in making this violated country whole again?  The reports continue and he, Mr. Bush says that there is, indeed, a link between the al Queda attack on the U. S. on September 11, 2001 and Saddam Hussein. What possible good does his repetition of this lie do?

Let us remind Mr. Bush of the facts.  The sea is rising. Pollution of the atmosphere continues unabated.  The climate is warming globally, and Mr. Bush is unmoved. I can already sense the water lapping at my feet here in low lying Florida.

It is, perhaps, not out of place to remind Americans that the home state of Mr. Bush, Texas, is currently in trouble because of Texans (Mr. De Lay is a prime example) of misusing democracy in order to cement the Republican leadership of that state.  We may hope, but are not reassured with the present complement of Supreme Court Justices (who cemented Mr. Bush into power as President), that they will address the problem of imbalance of representation and reverse the gerrymandering that was set up and controlled by Mr. Delay.  What is happening in Texas should be an early wake-up call to us all.
