Fuzzy Math and Voodoo Thinking

North Miami Beach, FL 12-02-2005
A.H. Schectman

It doesn’t matter which political party advances its ideas and plans for the future.  Whether one of the big two or any of the minor marginal parties, the ideas contain within them too little detail or are way out beyond the experience of most of the voters who try to make sense out of them.

The math about Social Security and a truly National Health coverage plan for ALL Americans is obscured by the costs of voodoo concepts about the need for the U.S. to spread democracy all over the world. Neither will do the job.  True goals are obscured by those in power trying to help their friends get a stronger hold on the controls of the finances of this nation.  Voodoo math made its appearance with the switch in the American perception of wealth.  It was deemed by the present administration necessary to reward the already rich with tax breaks.  Yes, there were tax “breaks” for the middle class but the former philosophy of doing something substantial for the poorest of our nation  somehow got switched so that the poorer have gotten poorer and the rich richer.  In my mind, priorities have lost their minds and the people responsible should be ashamed and voted out of office.  This is not the America I remember – before fuzzy math and voodoo ideas of those out of power for 40 years who did what they did to get into power.  Remember the subversion of the Supreme Court in electing this bunch?  You should also remember the incompetence of the bunch that has sat on its hands ever since being defenestrated by the imperial Bush forces.

There ought to be a law!  This is the cry of those who find themselves not being able to understand why government is not helping them and they are being told to go and help themselves.  No one understands the fuzzy math used to create chimeras to frighten people into abandoning the old Social Security system that really is not in trouble as long as the present payers continue to pay into it and the reforms that are needed are honestly addressed.  The “NEW” options that have been served up are a travesty and those of us who have solid health plans on top of social security would be stripped of their security and crumble into dust by uncaring proprietors of fuzzy math and voodoo programs.

The whole idea of “trickle down” economics sounds good to those who are capable of electing themselves into office because of their wealth.  They have friends who have the bankrolls that elect them to office where they can take care of their friends.  The whole wealth thing in this country has devolved into a Romanesque sequel where powerful people who own huge estates and factories form a governing group like our millionaire Senate and throw crumbs to the plebeians who vote with their stomachs and not their brains.  Clearly, they succumb to fuzzy math and voodoo thinking.
