(The Answer My Friends Is That a New Ice Age Will Follow Global Warming)

Some of us were singing this song which was a protest against present and future wars.  It is still relevant but no one is singing it anymore. This simple song reminds us of other important questions that have yet to be answered.  For instance, the following:

Where Have All the Ecumenicists Gone? We once thought of ourselves belonging to a world family of humans only to see the age old animosities and the new ones continue to pull us apart.

Where Have All the Scholars Gone?  Not to teach in colleges – they have all become afraid of being labeled “Liberals”.  Education is important enough only to enable you to win on the Wheel of Fortune.

Where Have All the Protesters Gone?  Protest is not welcome in this world of values and staunchness supporting our brave and faultless President.

Where Have the President’s Old Team Members Gone? Four years of working for a boss only to have him win another four years has shaken his team so that the weak sisters and half-hearted get tossed out.

Where Have All the Sinners Gone?  They are off to HELL because what we want is conformity.  Quick! Everyone - down on your knees and worship Jesus.

Where Has Confrontation Gone?  Strangely enough it has shown up in a soldier’s question about why his comrades have to scrounge up scrap metal and bulletproof glass to protect the Hummers used in Iraq.

Where Has the Confusion and Misdirection of Yasser Arafat Gone?  This is a question that is soon to be answered. Will the combatants in Israel and Palestine settle for a peace worked solely out between themselves?

Where Has the National Identity of European Nations Gone?  The answer my friends is that they have so many Arabs and Muslims today that battles of identity are merged with battles for equality of minorities.

Where Has the Soundness of the Social Security System Gone?  The answer my friends is that something called The Ownership Society is now here. Now we have individualism in the form of investing your present earnings in a retirement scheme dependent on the health of the Stock Market.  Good luck!
