How come the gang that won this past election wasn’t so perfect? Have you noticed the changes that have come fast and furious in the leadership that brought us the wonderful world of the First Term of Bush II? It kind of makes you wonder but you remember the little imperfections such as the way that big Military Hero, Colin Powell, seemed to be ignored or shunted aside while other, lesser beings made the decisions.
You see, what is important is the big picture and the big guy who occupies all of the space, all of the time. For those of us who saw the disrespectful portrait of our WAR President in Fahrenheit 9/11 and recognized him for being the limited individual he actually is - an extension of a vast array of handlers (say Puppeteers) you must wonder why his “team” will not stay around for a second term. Maybe they didn’t get it right the first time. Perhaps the great faith-connected Middle America didn’t want to notice because they were on their knees praying for a miracle. Was that miracle delivered? If so, why the defections?
I like the explanation that one or more soldier for Bush needs to spend more time with family or business or other responsibilities put on hold while in “public” service. I follow closely the in-fighting that is reported gleefully in the press about too many cooks with too many hands in the same pot stirring the same mess.
But, this brings to mind the picture of a different kind of “public servant”, our military who are treated quite differently than the civilians who push them around from here to there and from back then to way in the future. In the papers today there are stories of soldiers who tell why they do not want to go back, they have had enough, they have given enough and have not been given enough. My service was so long ago and in a war so great, so unimaginable and so terrible that my insignificant cog did not reason why but just went out to do or die. I was lucky. The soldiers of today who are not professional military but are mostly members of national guard units that have been federalized, have had enough of the last four years and would like to go home and try to forget what they have seen and done.
Well, the gang that saw us through the first Bush Presidency wasn’t so perfect after all – but they valiantly fronted for Bush, the failed ball club owner, the failed oil man, the dirtied Governor and the imperfect President and now they are leaving in droves. What does this tell you about the man elected for a second four year term by a little bit more than a majority of befuddled Americans?
