Reform That Process

North Miami Beach, FL 10-28-2004
A.H. Schectman

Our memories make the “good old days” vividly brighter and better than today.  Those days were different.  Slowly, over time, things changed and eventually we began to experience strident calls for reform of archaic and chaotic ways of doing things because the “good old days” were gone.  We seriously need to think and then DO something to reform the present debilitating and unhelpful process leading from nomination to election of our “leaders”.

One:  The period from even before nomination to election is too long.

Two:  The fact checking that goes on now AFTER one side produces information is at the wrong end of debates, speeches, protestations and promises.  All speeches of a political nature must be submitted in advance for approval by a NON-PARTISAN group in advance for fact checking BEFORE delivery.

Three:  Restrict the use of technology that can distort or untruthfully report campaign strategies and claims.  Limit the time AND money for T.V., Radio, Internet and print advertisements.

Four:  Make debates into real face to face, no holds barred traditional debates.

Five:  Talk shows that are political forums should be limited by LOT to a maximum of three instead of the unregulated mass of “hosts” and time devoted to politics.

Six:  Money.  The resources of a small nation are expended in the effort to elect one President, 435 House Members, 33 Senators and huge numbers of local officials.  These resources are needed elsewhere to help people, not put a few individuals in power.  We elect SERVANTS who do things for us that we cannot do for ourselves and they are too costly and become remote.

Seven:  Reform the WAR process.  Instead of bullets, explosives and human cannon fodder, rebuild the international cooperative block of nations who are willing to talk about reform and enable the U.S. to reenter the world political arena that is presently the seat of power for Islamic ambitions for supremacy.

Eight:  Make the leaders of nations who invade other nations responsible to the International Court of Justice. Subject them to punishment including stripping Presidents (dictators) and chief ministers of their national power. That includes Mr. Bush.  Notice we have done this to Slobodan Milosovic. Mr. Hussein made war against Iran and Kurds. He did not attack the U.S.  He awaits trial.

Nine:  Religion must stand aside from political races.

Ten:  The Electoral College must go. It shames the democratic process.

Eleven:  Simple standardized voting procedures should be adopted not just here in American but throughout the world where it is necessary for qualified voters to understand and participate in the process free of manipulation by Party or economic powers. REFORM THAT PROCESS!
