Janet, one of my frequent correspondents, came back at me with the notion that “in the next thousand years there will not be too many bones left to study with DNA.  Probably 90% of the human race will be cremated.” She implied we needed a safe place for our bones. I answered her in part as follows:

When Carol and I buried her mother we changed our minds about cremation and bought two plots in that cemetery. That was mostly emotional on our parts.  We were lucky to get some nice spots which does not make any sense at all for when you are dead you do not get the physical reaction of being in a nice place where you can enjoy the view or shade of a tree.  Actually, I would like some scientist of the future to be able to make some shrewd guesses about who and what I was just from MY bones and the DNA – if any are left after the coming nuclear confrontation with the enemies of reason.

I wrote this answer partly because of the analyses of how badly our ideas of Democracy are selling in parts of the world dominated by interpreters of the Koran and the intentions of the descendants of Mohammad who believe Satan lives in America. They have the strange belief that blowing up innocents by self-immolating young men and women is going to guarantee them going to heaven showing that people are capable of believing unbelievable things.  Not being mathematically inclined I tend to accept those projections of specialists who study such things and believe in the numbers that show that the fastest growing “religion” is that of Islam and there does not seem to be much room in that religion for Democracy. It also seems that Jews in and out of Israel are their number one enemy.

To be short about it, I think that the have-nots who are proliferating at a geometric pace compared to democracies, are out-numbering us, will continue to do so and soon will be able to roll over us and crush us as the insignificant insects they believe us to be.

In answer to the good questions Janet asked me about I wrote the following:

One of my favorite retreats from the possible end of time would be in an enclosed cave.  This cave could be either in a space ship or in a city at the bottom of the sea. But there is no safe place left in the world or out of it or under it.  I see the unthinking warriors of Islam on a jihad rampage against all unbelievers.  We have deluded ourselves to think that the children of Abraham are really related and have a common basic faith.  Sorry to be so pessimistic but once we are reduced to bones I don’t think it will matter very much to us.  I do fear for my children and grand children.
