Those End of Year Resolutions

North Miami Beach, FL 12-29-2003
A.H. Schectman

Ends are always near if you think about them.  When you begin to think of the end of something, it is already too late to do anything about the end or the things you should have done in the interim.  This year has zoomed by and I have left a great many things undone.  I have thought about what I should do to leave no child behind or get our troops out of other countries.  Well, no – I have little or no say about those subjects.  What I can do something about is closer to home. As in the larger topics, I probably will have not much more success in correcting personal abuses.

I have abused my desk shamelessly.  I look at the mess on it and push odd pieces into piles that make the top look a bit more organized.  What I need to do is to put like pieces into folders, label the folders and pile them up or box them in preparation of moving Condominium business into the Condominium office.  Since I was responsible for cleaning out and refurbishing the office, I finally need to put folders into drawers all neatly labeled. This is so I can turn the job over to followers who will have to assume my responsibilities.  That job will go no matter what.

This computer is now out of warrantee. The disc drive does not work and has not worked while under warrantee.  I should have done something about it earlier.  Now I can buy a new CPU, or Tower or whatever for a fraction of the price I paid just a few years ago and get a new one with twice as much memory and without the wireless connectivity that I never got to work successfully. This will be at a much lower price for a have a credit at Dell and will send back a non-functioning wireless “router”. My total price for a new piece of hardware will be under a hundred dollars – I think.  I cannot wait any longer for help and will have to get on the phone and talk to a “human” to make the arrangements.  My former “maven” understands how to make such connections but maybe I will be successful.  I cannot wait any longer and must do it before the end of this year.  Hey – that is in two days.

I made a resolution last summer to reduce my food intake and reduce my size.  This was successful and I have about three more pounds to go to be at 200. I probably will be able to get down to near 190. This will be only a few pounds more than I weighed at the conclusion of my Army service.  The loosely hanging flesh under my arms is something I can think about but I do not think that a resolution or exercise will help.

I have only a few resolutions for 2004.  I have surpassed my expectations and have crested the limit of seeing beyond 2000. I once believed it was impossible for me to achieve this.  If I can clear my desk, buy a new computer and keep my weight down, it will be enough.
