Please forget George W. Bush when thinking about the following. Rather than personalities, geographical origin and attractive physiques (using Arnold Schwartzeneggar as an extreme negative example), I think the upcoming presidential campaign needs an ideal candidate. The ideal candidate should have (in contrast to the new California Governor) a set of values and principles that can match the desires of the vast majority of THINKING American people.
1. Health and Welfare. This is a simple plan that grants the same coverage for 100% of the American people that is enjoyed by our elected and appointed officials in Washington, D.C.
2. Education. Public Education, the Students, the teachers, the schools and equipment and materials used therein shall be the second concern of laws passed and enforced by the new President. There shall be no better system than the Public Education system.
3. War in Iraq, in other distant places and the effort to eradicate terrorism. The U.S. will turn over all such decisions to a REFORMED United Nations not under the sway of theocratically controlled nations.
4. Gun Control. Automatic weapons, bombs, and personal handguns shall immediately outlawed, confiscated and the rule of law be instituted. Guns that may be owned shall have all bullets strictly limited, licensed, and accounted for if used.
5. Non-interference with Maternal gestation. The ideal candidate shall proclaim that the growth of new individuals in the womb is a personal concern of the mother-to-be and her doctor. The desire of couples to bring new individuals into the world shall be of public concern when they apply for a license to do this. This will immediately engage health care through the entire gestation process. Unwed individuals who involve themselves in the gestation process must file proof of the ability to give birth to, raise, educate and produce future citizens in a free America.
6. Solar and other non-fossil fuel power. The ideal presidential candidate will give immediate support to research into and the development of viable non-fossil fuel power. Solar, tidal, wind and hydrogen fuel cell development must be given Federal support and incentives.
7. Border, Refugees and Immigrants. The Borders of the United States should be sealed for a moratorium until a new, perfected system of inspecting the credentials of refugees, immigrants and visitors is developed. This envisions not less than three months nor more than six months to prepare and install.
8. Moratorium of building in over-developed cities and regions. The ideal President shall call for a moratorium of new building. Over-developed cities and regions shall wait for a coherent plan for future expansion of areas that are compacted with no real plans for water supply, waste disposal, mass transportation, work availability, medical care and sound housing for their citizens.
9. Regulation of Banks, Stock Markets and Businesses. Just like the controls put on unions and workers, Businesses that involve banking, investments, production, distribution, and retailing of all products shall be rigidly monitored for legal and morally legitimate practices.
10. Terrorism, Israeli Settlers and Palestinian murderers in the guise of suicide bombers. Israel shall keep its fence but on the borders of Oslo accords. Israeli shall be given incentives to remove settlements in Arab lands. Muslim countries that bankroll Palestinian “militants” shall instead contribute specifically to the building of Palestinian businesses and towns toward the end of creating a viable state. Any terrorism shall be stamped out to its sources.
11. Getting rid of the “U.S. Centric” obsession. The ideal candidate shall identify the United States as part of THE Americas and a member of the family of nations in the rest of the world. The ideal candidate supports the reform of a genuine United Nations.
The Ideal Presidential Candidate should be on the side of ALL the people and project confidence, understanding and expertise in government uniting the people and their government unlike the Republican failure, George W. Bush. Elected “government” shall be once again accorded respect as the means to logically and peacefully conduct the business of people going about the business of life.
