It is extremely hard to talk about killing, especially when you confront the conflicting rationales used to discuss 1. abortion and 2. execution. In the latest example of this, the convicted killer of an abortion doctor was executed by lethal injection yesterday. He defended himself and his supporters defended themselves with the argument that the abortion doctor was killing (murdering) innocent fetuses. The government and a jury said that the government could kill the murderer of the abortion doctor because he murdered the doctor. There is something flawed here.
At the prison where the execution was carried out, a group of supporters of the doctor and who also supported murdering abortionists because they murdered fetuses, raised signs stating their position. It is interesting to note they have the freedom under our system to advocate such murders. They also think it wrong that our government murders murderers. It is called execution and under our laws is just. Both sides think their positions are fair.
I think (thinking that THINKING SHOULD BE ALLOWED) that we need the death of murderers. I do not support the death penalty. But, I do think that there should be some deterrent to murderers who impose a death penalty on their victims. Their excuse is that they are defending the unborn that have no defense against abortionists despite the fact that abortion is still legal under some conditions.
What is lost in this is that the life of a mother who has a fetus that may be killing her is lost in the confrontation between two opposing groups. Then there is the mother who has too many children and cannot give appropriate care for another. There is still the freedom here for these groups to continue a debate even after it has been settled to the satisfaction one side. The other side comes back and demands that the decision be reversed. I do not think that a solution is achieved when to demonstrate their opposition to the death ( preventing life to be reached) of unborn children, abortion opponents kill abortionists and, in the process, interfere with the decision of potential mothers not to have their children.
This should not be a debatable issue. We have a President who was appointed when the electoral process was terribly flawed – a new wrinkle in the idea of democratic procedures. We shall settle any differences when the next election comes around. It is not necessary to kill your opponents over your differences.
When we murder we cause death. Death is not allowing your opponent to vote.
