I have a pretty nice life. I eat well, go to a lot of shows and have an exercise schedule that keeps me fit. I occupy my mind with books, writing my THINKING ALLOWED essays and enjoy the froth that news generates daily - particularly the justifications that almost every side imagines is the truth. We never really get to the truth of any matter because we are the object of so many obfuscations and pettifogger’s self-serving.
But, my interest in problem solving is a particularly vexing one for me for I don’t solve problems very well. Let me give you the example of parking here at 7th Moorings Condominium. We have allowed people to buy into our apartments who own more than one car. This has grown to a tremendously difficult situation that no matter how many solutions we try there will always remain a problem of too many cars for too few spaces.
We cannot create more than a couple of new spaces by using imagination and stretching the code restrictions and zoning limits. There will always be too many cars because no one can imagine being with his or her particular beloved horse to ride on. We can thank goodness that we don’t have to provide feedlots and pasturage to exercise our four legged vehicles. We have four wheeled transportation and there a lot of fuel stations close enough so that we just need stalls for what we drive.
I can solve the problem of finding 52 spaces that our 52 apartment owners use. We use 52 spaces but some of them are on the property of another, neighboring condominium. So one problem is gaining ownership of all the spaces we own to placate the neighboring condominium that complains that they pay maintenance and insurance on the spaces on their property that we use. I can’t solve this one for we must wait to see what the other condominium wants from us. We, I, would like to pay the maintenance and insurance costs and then own those spaces where our people park. Our people do not want to pay for what they consider theirs from the time our crooked builder set it up that way.
I cannot solve the problem of squatters who park wherever they want. The owners of apartments in our condominium are usually a nice group of people who live and to their separate ways. Gone are the days when they lived a communal life and cooperated in their celebrations and dining together. They were friends and friendly. Our Owners do not live as their earlier owners did. They bring in their friends who bring in their cars and our problems of parking and living together have become complicated beyond belief.
I try to solve problems but find they multiply too fast and I am expected to do all the work by myself. The other owners here look at me and expect me to come up with the answers. I monitor but do not solve the problems.
