I may have mixed a metaphor and can be accused of being "Chicken Little", but it matters not since I prefer to believe the News Media and not President Bush on the matter of Global Warming. I note that Alaska is cracking up, burning and sagging as a result of warming up. You can no longer depend on permafrost being permanent up there. In fact, the weather can no longer be depended upon to meet our seasonal expectations.
Despite denials that parts of Antarctica are breaking off and are state sized blocks of ice now floating free in the sea; despite the hole in the ozone layer growing ever larger; and despite the learned President and all the President's men and women doing denials - the weather certainly is flukier and warmer than ever before in this cycle between ice ages. I am concerned and the magnitude of the problem facing us should freeze the deniers in their tracks and make them listen up.
I live in Florida which is just a few feet above sea level. The whole of the Florida peninsula can be inundated before California ever breaks off and falls into the other sea. Even so, we are lucky to live in Florida because we don't have smog to put up with like the Californians. The weather just blows across the peninsula in either direction bringing us presents from either the Mexican Gulf or the Caribbean.
I don't want to cry wolf but the present group of officials in Washington, D.C. don't seem to be trustworthy - at least they just listen to un-elected bosses and trust them rather than their senses.
If I could, I would move to a tepid mountain top free of ice and wait until Florida sinks and California breaks off. Just moving to a higher floor here in sunny Florida won't do it. I don't want to be either a wolf crier or a little chicken but.
