"Should"
NMB, Florida March 13, 2002 A.H. Schectman THINKING ALLOWED Essays on Issues, Ideas and Reflections on the Times. Published Now and Then. Opinions Pro or Con Are Welcome. "SHOULD" Andrea Yates should be incarcerated in a mental hospital not a jail or a hospital for the criminally insane. Israel should get out of Palestinian territory. It should remove "settlers" from Palestinian territory. Palestine should cease terrorist attacks on civilian targets. The Catholic hierarchy should feel shame about protecting Priests who sexually abuse parishioners and reform the practice of celibacy from mandatory to choice. We should investigate and study African Churches that worship "Winners". Perhaps the "Church of Wheel of Fortune" should be formalized here. Kofi Annan, Anthony Zinni, George Bush and other non-Israeli and non-Palestinian contestants should offer plans to stop conflict rather than proffer words to show restraint. Richard "Dick" Cheney should map out the attack on Iraq and the steps to oust and replace Saddam Hussein. The Arab League should propose help to Palestine in terms of building a nation of peace and trade - not a nation at war with its neighbor. The U.S. should keep its borders open but carefully and completely inspect those who want to pass through. People who own and wish to keep large or barking dogs should be licensed. The power to pardon should be subject to plebiscite review. "Games" celebrating vampire attacks, monster's threatening humans, motor-cycle gangs, nazis and terrorists brutalizing innocent victims should be immediately destroyed and prevented from being offered for sale or given away. Makers of games that trivialize or deny such horrors as genocide should be prosecuted. The homeless should be provided with clean, safe housing for limited periods of time where they can receive social services and help reestablishing normal living practices. Insanity should be understood not feared. The insane should be kept from us and protected against themselves. The Federal Government should never resort to mass mid-night raids on suspects. Everyone should exercise the right to invoke "should" whenever possible. Carol's Evaluation: 10 out of 10.
