I HAVE NOT STOPPED WRITING
I have not stopped writing - I have just stopped sending my essays out
after Carol has given them an editorial once over. I will try to explain.
I write because I have to. I think about events in the world and am
impelled to comment. So, I write. Sometimes the thoughts go on and on and
I write and write. This has proved to be too much for some people I send my
stuff to. I have had occasion to meet with a few of them lately and their
comments were to the effect that there was simply too much for them to read.
They don't read with as much enthusiasm as I write. I let what they say
affect me. It had a dampening effect on me.
This has the effect to give me pause to think again. I can still write as
much as I want to each day but I don't have to send my essays out. I can
let them pile up and select what I consider to be the best and sparsely
dribble them out. Unfortunately, this doesn't work. Carol sometimes awards
me less than 10 evaluations. I welcome them. She is frustrated with me over
what I want to write about (she doesn't care much for the political,
educational, and war commentaries). These have sort of put a lid on my
efforts and the whole process for me has stopped for a while. I am pausing
to think again.
Since I write mostly for myself, I shouldn't be affected by what my readers
say in reply. This is fine for the replies are welcome. I do ask for
opinions pro OR con. These replies show that I am read. I appreciate the
answers and sometimes take the time out from writing new essays to reply at
length to quarrelsome missives by my more prolific respondents. I have lost
a few of them because at least one accused me of being too liberal and
another that I was too conservative. I am trying to please no one but
myself. I like to write and find I am compelled to do so at least once each
day to start off the day. I hope this is helpful. One of my respondents
called to find out if her e-mail was on the blink because my daily essay had
not arrived for a couple of days. I hope this will reassure her. I have a
backlog of five essays. Does anyone want them all in a bunch? Carol's
