First the Bad News
NMB, Florida December 12, 2001 A.H. Schectman THINKING ALLOWED Essays on Issues, Ideas and Reflections on the Times. Published Now and Then. Opinions Pro or Con Are Welcome. FIRST, THE BAD NEWS I thought that if I introduced the bad news about our Annual Membership Meeting in the Condominium first that I could try to think of some good news to follow. The bad news is that I was reelected President and the old board represents a majority on the new Board so we will be able continue to TRY to do things to upgrade and improve our communal home. Additional bad news is that three very active and prepared "opposers" defeated most of the proposed changes. They did this despite the fact that there were no pyrotechnics this time by me or by my supporter (one, maybe two or three). For the first time in many years there were enough owners to constitute a quorum. Thus, the meeting went mostly as scheduled and it was very interesting. The good news is that I kept my temper for it would have done no good to lose it again. It was also plain that the will of the majority was there in support of the old and the new board despite knocking down needed changes. These changes were badly worded. This was pointed out by the opposition. All agreed on that and the blame was generously placed on the Board Lawyer who created the documents from which we all worked. I decided that I would give it another chance. After all, I had created a filing system and kept all the paper work that will be of help in the coming year. The first year was a learning year and it would be a shame to have wasted it by getting into a snit and resigning in protest to the well-prepared and organized opposition. One thing I have learned is to use your opponent's energy to assist you by listening to what is said. Don't waste your energy on useless causes. Carol's Evaluation: 10 out of 10.
