ON MOM AND MAMMOGRAMS

This piece is on "Mom and Mammograms". I'm for them. Yes, I'm for Mom AND
mammograms. We all have mothers and all mothers have, bless them,
mammaries. Those breasts are the best. We knew that as kids because there
was an inborn sucking mechanism that aroused the need and response in both
the child and its mother. The milk of human kindness has its roots right
there.

The present agitation is curious. I personally cannot understand why
anyone would be against the procedure that MIGHT disclose that a cancer is
starting in a woman's breast. Of all the deadly conditions that might
afflict a female of our species, breast cancer is the most frightening.
This cancer deserves our fear and all the might of our U.S. dollar to be
used in search of a prevention or a cure for breast cancer. So what if it
isn't the best? It is all that we have at present and it DOES save lives.

Unfortunately there is the concern for the mighty U.S. dollar over the
concern for lumps in a woman's breast. It is my suspicion that it is the
men who control and benefit from that dollar who wish to rescue it from this
use because THEY don't fear cancer striking them in their bosoms. (I know
of the case of one man who contracted breast cancer.) I would also suggest
that if there were growing fear about prostate cancer they would not be so
slow to finance tests and research because it concerns men.

I cannot see lumps that are tiny nor feel their presence. I know that men
who drool over mammaries are not concerned with anything other than tactile
responses. Women own their breasts and are concerned about them for their
own health and for the sustenance they provide for their children. They are
the thinkers. They think about consequences. They know the need for x-rays
to see if those terrible lumps are growing. They also face the other
consequence of the possible cure by radical surgery - the removal not only
of the breast but also of all the surrounding tissue. This is a terrible
consequence of being born a female. The male of the species is unknowing
and uncaring if he supports cutbacks on one way to detect the presence of
those terrible lumps.
Carol's Evaluation: 10 out of 10.
