THE MOST FEARFUL PITFALL OF ALL

When you begin to think of the terrible things that can befall you and the
terrible ideas that can cause even worse tribulations, we can fall into
traps that are laid for us. A pitfall is a hole that is dug and covered
lightly so you cannot see it. You are expected when you least expect it to
fall into a trap laid for you by someone who does not have your welfare at
heart. You do the work of someone who wants to benefit by your misfortune.

The most fearful pitfall of all in these new days is the one laid for us by
the fundamentalists. The fundamentalist terrorists took our complacency to
heart when they plotted the confusion and hurt caused by their use of our
own means of transportation to shut us into our homes. We have our own
fundamentalists who have been trying to lure us into the trap of fearing our
own government. Good religious people have fallen into this trap.

We all suffer from the same lack of interest of doing things in our own
interest. We once expected our own strength and ingenuity to provide for
ourselves and our families. As life became complex we erected institutions
of government and expected the government to do almost everything we once
did for ourselves. Then, along came the idea that "faith-based"
institutions should do for us what the government had been doing and before
that what we did for ourselves. This is a bad idea and a pitfall we might
fall into and should try mightily to avoid.

The best argument I can think of is - look at the faith based terrorists
who used their belief system in order to commit suicide to hurt you and me.
How can we possibly think that government of the people and by the people
can be bad? How can we think that the disparate and distinct churches,
synagogues and temples can duplicate what the government has done for us?
Shall we have soldiers put shields in front of them that are crosses, stars
of David and stars and crescents instead of the American Flag?

What is this nonsense that makes people walk blindly into pitfalls?
What do you think? Carol's Evaluation: 10 out of 10.
