One Would Think
NMB, Florida September 9, 2001 A.H. Schectman THINKING ALLOWED Essays on Issues, Ideas and Reflections on the Times. Published Now and Then. Opinions Pro or Con Are Welcome. ONE WOULD THINK.. One Would Think that the contestants in the Mid East would have had enough of outside "help" and finally sit down together and come to an agreement on - anything. (These things just write themselves.) O.W.T. that the Conference on Race has settled nothing. The divisions between power blocks and ideology have not been erased but intensified. Any "agreement" in language is at the cost of offending one side or another. The massing of many small countries to agree with the Arab world condemnation of "Zionism as Racism" shows no understanding of the problem between contestants in that microcosm of religious and national aspirations. The record of slavery has not been expunged by apology while it is still practiced in the lands that focus solely on "Zionism". O.W.T. that the torturers and executioners in China would know that justice does not flow from such practices. If these officials of Chinese jurisprudence would taste the same punishment they would know it is not just, not human, offends the rest of the civilized world and if applied to them would cause the system to collapse. O.W.T. that we have something pretty valuable in the U.S. if so many southern neighbors want to share it. Wouldn't one think that we could help slow the flow those running towards us by thinking of someway to make their lives better where they live? O.W.T. that Afghans would know their prosecution of Christians going about Christian work is unjust by Christian standards. This one thinks that most religions would feel better if all untrue faiths would disappear. One would think G.W. Bush should be able to see that his failed economic remedies would result in people being put out of work. O.W. also T. that his statements admitting problems should make more sense. What do you think? Carol's Evaluation: 8 out of 10.
