ORDINARILY I WOULDN'T WANT TO GO THERE
There are places you wouldn't ordinarily want to go to. One of these is the
"Vagina Monologues" - where three women celebrate the seldom seen, never
pubically scratched and rarely discussed internally tucked away organ. So,
last night Carole and Sam and Carol and I went to see this show.

The sights, sounds and smells of vaginas were openly celebrated and there
was only about one to two percent of the audience who were men. I noticed
that a "youngish" crowd was present and many who came were in groups. The
attitude that was prevalent was - sock it to me, I can stand it and I can
hardly wait. I had no idea what or how the topic was to be presented. I
became locked in a center spot in row S in the orchestra at the Amaturo
Theater in the Broward Center for the Performing Arts for two non-stop
hours.

There are certain pungent phrases for being in situations where it is best
to go with the flow (no pun intended). For the most part the women in the
audience were just as embarrassed as the men were. Listening to seldom
expressed words in mixed company and sharing personal observations of
private self-awareness is rare in our society.

I think the entire audience was most entertained by the sounds (moans)
acted out by one of the three entertainers. These were graphic and mostly
alluded to in pornographic renderings that are not nearly as realistic as
these seemed to be. The women in the audience seemed to respond to these
sounds with a greater enthusiasm than was shown when smells and sights were
introduced.

There was some mention of the male organ and these were in relation to
disinterest shown to female needs and there were some frightening scenes of
abuse by self-interested partners and the ill-use of that female part during
rape not solely in times of war.

There is a response factor in all of this but I can see how the "Penis
Response to the Vagina Monologues" will turn out to be pale, flaccid and
unsatisfactory in comparison. Want to bet? Carol's Evaluation:10 out of 10.
