Enjoying Mackenzie

ENJOYING MACKENZIE When we went to Macau to pick up Mackenzie he was eating a late lunch. His mother thought we wanted to eat because when we entered her restaurant she brought out a dish she knew we liked and set it on the table where Mackenzie was eating his soup and drinking his can of tea. We had rushed to finish up in South Miami where we had tried to exchange a New Jersey coupon for tickets to a show at the IMAX on our way north. We also had lunch at a Cuban renovation of the Country Style restaurant where we had eaten before. We made time to shop for the soundtrack of the hillbilly soul music in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? We found that immediately and then up to 163rd Street and Mackenzie. He was dressed in shorts, sneakers and a yellow T-shirt. Despite rain and accidents on 95 we made it in time to get him to the theater where he chose to see Atlantis rather than Dr. Doolittle. He would have wanted to see Shrek but we had already seen it. We had questioned if he would need a sweater because the AMC 24 was, as usual, cold. I put on my sweater and Carol, her long sleeve shirt. He didn't seem to notice. We found our seats after killing some time watching the three story fountain spouting several times and picking out all the people on different levels wearing something yellow or blue, our colors. Now, this was on a Thursday afternoon and the theater soon filled up with children accompanied by their parents or sponsors - like us. Mackenzie is going on seven and small with a serious face and a great smile. He has a facile mind and reads extremely well - far ahead of his age level. We enjoy him and had looked forward to taking him to the movies after his mother agreed to let him go with us. Atlantis disappointed me. I thought it was Harry Potter transported into a hunt for very, very ancient ruins but there was a twist. Carol liked it and so did Mackenzie. He curled up in his seat after taking off his sneakers and, although given to rocking a bit he was fascinated by the color and action. We were fascinated by him. It is a blessing that this kind of "date" by ancients like us with a small very smart young child could have been arranged and go off without a hitch. Carol's Evaluation:10 out of 10.
