Don't Tell Me I've Nothing To Do
North Miami Beach, FL June 14, 2001 Aaron H. Schectman THINKING ALLOWED Essays on issues, ideas and reflections on the times. Published now and then, Opinions pro or con are welcome. "DON'T TELL ME I'VE NOTHING TO DO" I don't spend my time counting flowers on the wall or watch Captain Kangaroo on the TV as the song says. Let me organize my thoughts and tell you about the last couple of days. Going backwards it is like this: This morning I got up after a night without interruption and got myself a breakfast while I read the Times. I decided that my comments on the comments in the Op Ed page or Editorial page were not needed. So, I dragged a little and got on my bike and went for a ride. I checked out the parking area and found no car in violation and was on my way. I bumped into my next door neighbor who was out running and I stopped to tell her the news about Flood Insurance and asked her if she would fill a vacancy on our Condominium Board of Directors. She said yes and I was on my way again. I was able to get across Miami Gardens Drive without waiting and headed for the bike path along Snake Creek Canal. Opposite the Buckley Tower I noticed an elderly man walk slowly across the Drive in an unusually empty highway. I stopped to congratulate him for his nerve in taking this chance. He replied that he was almost sorry he wasn't hit because life wasn't what it used to be. I wished him a lot of luck and was on my way again. My good morning greetings to all the walkers I met were warmly answered. I found a penny glinting in the sunlight. The sun is pretty hot even just a few minutes after 7 when I started out. I got home drenched. However, the high seat of the bike has prevented my knees from groaning their usual chorus and my lower back has been noticeably good to me for some time now. Yesterday I participated in a 4 hour long course on Condominium Finances and last night my Board of Directors approved purchasing Flood Insurance. This gave me permission to tell a disappointed purchaser that he could buy the last empty apartment. The Board also gave me permission to have offending cars towed away and a host of other things they denied me in previous meetings. They also approved my appointment of a new board member who graciously took minutes despite my taping each session. So, don't tell me I've nothing to do! Carol's Evaluation:10 out of 10.
