Have Pity O Makers of New Laws
North Miami Beach, FL April 2, 2001 Aaron H. Schectman THINKING ALLOWED Essays on issues, ideas and reflections on the times. Published now and then, Opinions pro or con are welcome. HAVE PITY O MAKERS OF NEW LAWS "Soft" money has hogged the spotlight too long. There are so many other things that you could spend your time on reforming besides where electioneering funds come from. For instance: Soften the unacceptable high volume of sound when you say the names of candidates. Restrict the unstoppable series of images of the faces of artificially enhanced ordinary people. Stop the unremitting repetition of meaningless slogans that divert our attention away from real issues. Shorten the unreasonable length of time the process now consumes. Limit the obscene amounts of money spent to ennoble unworthy people to positions of authority. Regain the loss of reality grounded in real living things when converted to "virtual" reality. Remove the masks of piety replacing the warts and scars of real behavior on real people. Limit the influence of small, influential, unbelievably wealthy pressure groups. Replace the present process that allows managed and coutured images that falsely represent real people. Remember the poor, the orphans, the widows, the aged, the lame, the halt and injured and the "different". For all of these, O Lawmakers, reform.
