I Should Have Gone Biking
North Miami Beach, FL March 21, 2001 Aaron H. Schectman THINKING ALLOWED Essays on issues, ideas and reflections on the times. Published now and then, Opinions pro or con are welcome. I SHOULD HAVE GONE BIKING This morning at 4:30 I tried to go back to sleep but could not. So, I reached for the book I was reading last night and trod silently out of the bedroom to the office and tried to read. This didn't work, so I made a breakfast out of a warmed everything bagel and butter with a hot cup of Postum. This works even though it does not taste like the "Natural Coffee" taste it claims to achieve. I topped this off with a glass of orange juice just to empty the container and, of course, swallowed my morning pills. Not satisfied, I went back to my book but thought that since the sky beyond the vertical blinds was lightening the papers might have arrived. There is nothing like opening the New York Times and finding something to comment upon. Both the Times and the Miami Herald were out on the catwalk. I read through the first section of the Times and particularly the last pages that contain the editorials and the Op-Ed opinion articles. No such luck this morning. I also checked to see if Dell came down on its laptop prices or if Toshiba had a new sale that might interest me. Well, no - there were ads but these were the same as yesterday and the week before. IF we take a motor trip across the country as we are thinking we might do, I naturally think I must have a really portable computer and modem to keep you all informed about my really important thought processes. So, I should have gone biking. The morning is cool for South Florida but I have a number of meetings today that are on my mind. The entire membership of the Board of Directors of 7th Moorings Condominium, Inc. is to "screen" two new applicants for membership in our desirable housing association. This will take place around our dining room table at 12:00 noon and 7:30 p.m. this evening. We might even have sold Carol's apartment. Then, too, there is the investment of energy in the hot pool and exercise in Parkway Hospital first thing. So, although I should have gone biking, I shirked and am sitting here at the computer keyboard without absolutely anything to say. How about that, Carol? Carol's Evaluation:10 out of 10.
