WELL IT'S BEEN A BUSY WEEK AT SKYLAKE, NMB

It has been a busy week at Skylake in North Miami Beach, Florida. We
visited with Myron and Lois when they escaped winter's wrath in New York
City. They came and stayed with Mimi and Bernard in Boynton Beach. So, we
drove up last Tuesday and had lunch at the Indian Springs Clubhouse that
offered opulence, over nourishment and the sights of the privileged dining
and at play.

A few days later on Friday we drove down to pick up Ruth in South Beach.
She and Charlie came down, incidentally escaping winter's worst in New
Jersey. Charlie had an appointment with a committee meeting in Hotel Edison
fronting on the Ocean. Hotel Edison had a banner on its side entrance that
proclaimed that it quartered soldiers during World War II. Charlie is
writing a book on the teaching of missionaries being a Protestant Churchman
himself. It is curious and seems inappropriate to me that someone directed
him to this hotel. Loudspeakers there competed with loudspeakers of other
places of pagan worship on this street of Art Deco frontaged hotels and
eateries where near nudity and spastic dancing decorated the crowded
sidewalks. Diners at small tables were part of the gawkers who came to
witness the scenes of in-line skaters, motorized scooter drivers and go-go
dancers inside the bars.

Actually, we were happy to rescue Ruth and bring her up to our section of
Florida. We took her past the Villa Maria where Lady Lil spent her last
days and into the filling station at COSTCO for a fill up. We next drove up
Biscayne Blvd. to P.F. Chang's for that Restaurant's version of Chinese food
and then, for dessert, over to show her our new apartment.

We cannot imagine how this gentle lady who was a colleague of mine in the
Education Department at Monmouth and her scholar husband survived South
Beach. Carol didn't like it much but I would have liked to stay longer and
see the sights and hear the sounds.

This is just the first part of our week. There will be three parts. The
second will cover the things I left out. Carol was kind enough to remind me
of them. The third part will feature "Gumboots". Carol's Evaluation:10 out
of 10.
