A DOCTOR WHO GRADUATED AT THE BOTTOM OF HIS CLASS

A little less than half of us felt mulish a short while ago while a little
more than half felt quite good. The little less than half got to call the
shots and called in a new doctor rushing to have his prescriptions filled.
That's right. Unfortunately, this doctor did not graduate anywhere near the
top of his class. The little less than half of us who called him in
assigned him some serious surgery on the entire body politic. He prescribed
whole new regimens and insisted on using the other doctors in HMOs dedicated
to profit making; his Rx was and is privatizing government. He is one
prescribing gent, this Dr. Bush. Just think about whom he will bring in for
a conference call on all the operations he plans for us.

I've been thinking about his appointments of specialists to take care of
ills I thought were no longer troubling many of us. We had already begun to
throw out 'out of date' prescriptions that were used over sixty years ago.
Those ways of doing things making the poor more dependent have already been
radically changed. We were already trying to make changes and we sort of
became prosperous at the same time. Our own doctors resisted voodoo
medicine that would change the direction in which our health care was going.
Dr. Bush came from a different school of medicine.

This "Faith Care" thing, or something like that (it sounds like religion to
me), is supposed to take the slack from government expense and put that
expense on the people who belong to organized religions. With the budgetary
surplus exceeding expectations Dr. Bush still wants to cut taxes which could
be spent improving services for all Americans. But this doctor who hired a
whole crew to help him out asks non-medical people in the middle to take
over a monumentally government job.

I do not see the prescription of creating the most expensive military
system on earth here in America as meeting the ills of the world. Dr. Dubya
is sharpening our country's confrontational skills at the same time
preparing to cut into our body politic. This is the time for the patient to
sit up and say, STOP! Just think, a little less than half wanted Dr. Bush,
an insufficiently educated doctor. What do you think? Carol's Evaluation:
9 out of 10.
