WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED? II

This piece was written yesterday, but as I tried to save it - it
disappeared. I tried many ways for the entire day to find where it had
hidden itself. This second attempt is only because I thought what I had
managed to say was pretty good. But, why am I not surprised that such
things as losing a whole page of good stuff happen?

Why am I not surprised that George Bush will continue to conduct his
budding presidency as though he and less than half the country have a
mandate to undo the last eight years?

Why am I not surprised that John Ashcroft, loser to a dead man in a
senatorial election in Missouri, will become Attorney General? This is a
man whom archconservatives look on with awe.

Why does it not surprise me that Maureen Dowd whose religious training
continues to direct her evaluations of Hillary Rodham Clinton? I love
reading the New York Times. The Liberal "Times" has a love-hate
relationship with Democrats and their free spending libertine ways.

Why are Americans not surprised that the Stock Market is resting after a
bravura performance encouraging stocks that should never have been offered
for sale to reach maniac levels?

Why am I still surrounded by "stuff" that chokes our simplified and
streamlined lives in our new home? Why is Carol never satisfied when a
level is reached where I am comfortable still surrounded by "stuff'?

Why are we surprised to learn that gasoline prices, our indicator of
American greatness, are inching up to Canadian and Europe's levels?

Why am I not surprised that the original inspiration of this essay was
so much better than the one that disappeared?
Carol's Evaluation: 10 out of 10. Carol says: Gas prices are not going up -
they are staying the same or going down.
