BACK AGAIN
We made a vacation trip out of scooting up to New Jersey to reclaim a bunch
of "stuff" we had left with the Malikarjuns. Malik took Raika and Jennifer
with him to India and Sharon stayed home because SHE had to work and finish
a course she was taking. Malik, the professor, missed a great meal that
Sharon put together after the course was over and she had put in a long day
at the County office. The Malikarjuns were not only hospitable - they
extended hospitality to the junk we couldn't fit in our car on our trip down
after we sold the house and had to get out. Thank you, Sharon and Malik!
Our time in New Jersey was made perfect because we cut a day off our trip
up and were able to get all the tasks done that we had planned on and, in
addition, a few more opportunities that presented themselves. We stayed at
Bernice's house in Brick Township and felt at home because Bernice made us
feel that way. She couldn't help it. She cooked us homemade meals and
treated us like members of the family that we have always felt we were. We
coaxed her to the movies and saw "Space Cowboys" which we recommend. This
made up movie was made even more memorable because on the way back to
Florida we stayed in Titusville and took the tour at the real Kennedy Space
Center. We were told we shouldn't miss it and we now recommend it to you.
A memorable short time was spent with Sue Young. We had driven over before
going to Sharon's house and found her on a lounge on the deck in the back.
We were to pick up Erin who was to help us by his climbing stairs and
recover our "stuff". He appeared driving his mother's wheelchair - a
remarkable contraption. We were able to witness this wonderful child when he
lifted her upright and helped her into the chair. Sue, we love you and your
wonderful family. Without Erin's help it would have been impossible for us
to carry the many cartons and bundles from a room over Sharon's garage down
to our car in the driveway.
Milton Ziment turned 80 a few days back. We found that out while doing
lunch with Nancy Conn-Levin who is like a daughter to us. We found that she
is busy with Amanda's new apartment and Amanda's new job as a kindergarten
teacher. She is also involved with the new productions of the Phoenix
Theater Company she and Eric are busy with, eternally it seems. We called
Milton and Clara Gee and were able to make a luncheon date with them at Mimi
's Gourmet place. It was like old home week seeing them and Mimi. We caught
up on a lot of news about Temple Beth Miriam and people that we know.
Carol and I spent six days traveling in the car - one way empty and the way
back loaded - and my fears about my back were not realized until this
morning when I awoke feeling great. It only took a few steps out of the
door of the motel when I knew that something was amiss. It wasn't a miss, it
was my chronic aching back that hurt all the way down the coast of Florida.
We have a remedy for boredom on long trips. This is books on tape. We
record TEXTbooks on tape for students who are blind or dyslexic. We listen
to professionally produced stories, most of which are interesting, well
performed and which suck us into the world of the characters we may have
read about earlier. What is your recommendation for backs that ache?
We came home and saw our wonderful contractor, Luiz this afternoon and
looked into our new apartment which is progressing well. We can't tell when
we'll move in but aren't we lucky to have our present apartment where I am
able to write this essay on this computer?
Now we are home with all our "stuff" in one place. Where will we ever find
the space to put it all?
Carol's Evaluation: 10 out of 10.
