Bike Riding and Other Events
North Miami Beach, Florida 1-11-2000 Aaron H. Schectman THINKING ALLOWED Essays on issues, ideas and reflections on the times. Published now and then. Opinions pro or con are welcome. BIKE RIDING, DOORS, CERAMICS & A BIRTHDAY I don't recommend riding a bicycle in fog and traffic but I did both this morning. I am an early riser; the fog was thick but I came back wet and safe. We are quite excited that the shower doors in our new bathroom might be installed today. The vanity cabinet without its doors was installed yesterday. The whole December experience seems to be near completion at this mid point in January. Our craftsmen will also cut the mirror formerly occupying the wall space in that bathroom to put one part over the vanity and make a wall mirror for the common wall between kitchen and dining area. Excitement and excitement. So much is happening that I almost forgot that I am due for a ceramics class this morning. This is truly a significant and unique offering in our JCC. Zena Posever, a sculptor of great renown, teaches the class. Her works are featured widely, even in the Smithsonian. Her husband, Harry Silberberg, is one of my treasured correspondents and is sure to find hundreds of examples I have missed in my effort to condense and compact. The carpenter who installed the vanity cut out the top for the basin. I appropriated the pieces he was throwing away to use in the ceramics class. These oval wooden pieces, with Formica tops, will make good bases for clay models. I miss throwing clay on a turntable, devices available in my classes at Monmouth. I think I will speak with Zena to ask if it would be possible for me to make one of these for her. Time is moving quickly now. Today is Tuesday and Thursday is Lady Lil's birthday. Carol has ordered the cakes and arranged for the Villa to have party favors, napkins, soda and ice when 100 year old Lillian Lane will have her party at 1:30 p.m. Son Bob and his son Gordon will be there. Bob and Jeannie Hirsch from Scottsdale will be there. Nephew Myron, his wife Lois and great nephew Bill from New York and Seattle will be there on the weekend. Granddaughter Nancy and Great-grandchildren Josh, Jeremy and Brooke will come the following weekend. Even greater Excitement! Carol's Evaluation: 91/2 out of 10.
